Common trap: The O–H bonds within a water molecule are polar covalent bonds. Hydrogen bonds are attractions between molecules here. Do not swap them because both names contain hydrogen.
Common trap: Carbon is not an energy source simply because it is carbon. Energy changes depend on the complete reaction and its reactants and products.
Common trap: Hydrolysis does not mean adding hydrogen gas. Also, do not claim that breaking a chemical bond itself releases energy: bond breaking requires energy; overall reaction energetics depend on bonds formed as well.
Common trap: A phospholipid head is not hydrophobic. Also, “unsaturated” does not mean fewer fatty acid tails; it refers to carbon–carbon double bonds.
Common trap: Denaturation does not automatically mean the amino acid sequence was changed. A protein can lose its functional shape while keeping its peptide bonds intact.
Common trap: Complementary base pairing does not mean every RNA has equal A and U percentages. That equality is guaranteed for an entire fully paired double-stranded molecule, not an arbitrary single strand.
Common trap: Do not jump from a changed molecule to “the organism dies” unless the evidence supports that scale of effect. Explain the nearest supported consequence first.
