Origins and extinction
Evidence about early life is incomplete, so experiments test particular possible steps rather than reconstructing one fully proven pathway. RNA can store information and some RNAs catalyze reactions, motivating RNA-world hypotheses. Organic molecules forming abiotically do not by themselves constitute a living cell. Environmental change and mass extinctions can remove lineages and create ecological opportunities for survivors; later diversification does not mean extinction happened for a purpose.
A laboratory system producing organic building blocks from simpler chemicals supports a possible abiotic chemical step. It does not prove the complete historical origin of the first cell.
Evolution is branching history, not a march toward humans or an unavoidable increase in complexity.
