Biodiversity
Diversity can affect ecosystem function through complementary resource use and differing responses to disturbance. Richness alone does not specify community composition or guarantee resilience. Genetic variation can provide heritable differences on which selection acts, while population bottlenecks may reduce that variation. Evaluate diversity claims with replicated comparisons and appropriate controls: productive sites can support more species, so correlation alone does not prove that richness caused productivity.
Communities with four equally abundant species and four species dominated by one have equal richness but different evenness. Count and distribution answer different questions.
More species does not mean every possible disturbance will have no effect. Specify the function, disturbance, and evidence.
